If you watch the old episodes of Top Gear , you’ll find instances where the actors are completely out of step with how their characters develop over the life of the program, such as, James May chauvinistically talking about what is and isn’t manly. That bit just wouldn’t work any more.
But, what I find really striking is Jeremy Clarkson, who is basically a Tory, sporting a Che t-shirt:

Perhaps he’s wearing the Che tshirt in an ironic way like them Hipsters do it?

That’s gotta be it.

It’s almost like they’re on a TV show that’s meant to attract as many viewers as possible in order to sell ads. Ernesto would be proud.

You realize that James May had a show call “James May’s Man Lab”, right?” Manliness in a British context is different than America.

James May had his own show about the art of being manly: Man Lab. Clarkson has a history of questionable “trendy” fashion choices. Seriously:
I'm not sure why either of these things surprise you. There are mild detours here and there on the trip Thad is their characters, but I've rarely seen any content from any of them that doesn't somehow align themselves with the personas they have on Top Gear.

He probably is a Tory, but he made fun of Thatcher (ultimate Tory) and also was publicly againts Brexit.

You have to admit that sporting a Che tee is either:
A. Unusually hipster for Clarkson; or
B. Unusually communist for Clarkson.

Tory in British and Canadian political terms can mean a lot of things. Clarkson puts out a hard right Johnson or Rees-Mogg-esque image as part of his character, but in real life he definitely seems more like a Cameronite one-nation/red Tory.
Like how “liberal” in the US could refer to a borderline conservative (in other countries) like Bloomberg or someone like Sanders or Ocasio-Cortez.

Yeah, I’m guessing Clarkson is a moderate out of some statements he’s made. Even if his attitude about some stuff seems super right wing.
